Eurofix - JOINT SEALANT COMPOUND
Description
EUROFIX is a high quality, single component, hot applied, joint and crack sealant compound, designed to be tough, flexible and have good extension properties over a wide range of temperature conditions. The sealant is supplied as a solid, and is self leveling at application temperature. The sealant is composed of bitumen with SBS plasticizers, and stabilizers. It provides a permanently elastic jointing compound capable of accomodating a joint movement larger than 20%. EUROFIX adheres strongly to porous as well as to smooth surfaces
Properties:
EUROFIX is designed for sealing horizontal
expansion joints in constructional works, e.g.
roads, buildings, industrial floors, bridges, etc.
EUROFIX is composed of modified bitumen,
elastomers, synthetic resins, plasticizers and
fillers.
Application:
- Joint preparation:Joints to be sealed should be thoroughly cleaned and dried using a hot compressed air lance, or by grit blasting or power brushing, to insure removal of all foreign matter. Previously used materials should be well removed. Sealing depth should not be less than a fraction of 0.7 the joint’s width, and be at least 7 mm.
- Joint sealing: For better adhesion, joint surface should be primed before sealing. The bituminous primer EUROFONDO is recommended as a primer to be used 1 to 2 hours before sealing. The joint sealant compound should be heated and agitated in a purpose-built sealant pre-heater unit, 0 ensuring that temperature does not exceed 190 C. It is recommended that the melters have thermometers indicating sealant temperatures so sealant temperatures can be maintained at recommended heating temperature's. The pouring temperature of EUROFIX is 180 C. The use of an oil bath for heating is recommended. Exceeding 220 C may result in permanent loss of its elastic properties. The pot life of the sealant held at pouring temperature is approximately 14 hours. To extend the pot life, new blocks of sealant may be added. Sealant that has been over heated or heated for a long period of time may become very liquid, or very stringy and thick. This sealant should be removed from the melter immediately and discarded. The material should then be pumped into the joint, or poured using a melter pourer or bucket and “V” mould, with the minimum loss of temperature. Joints should be sealed to a level of approximately 3 mm below the surface.
Consumption:
Eurofix: Indicatively for a joint of 2 cm in width
(1.4 cm in depth), 336 gr per meter is required.
EUROFONDO (primer): 400 gr/m2 of joint
sealing surface
